ACF Car Finance Gives Valeters A Chance To Shine

Valeting staff at a national used car dealership are being given the chance to buff up their CVs on a special training programme created by the company.

ACF Car Finance Limited says it believes that valeters deserve a higher status in the motor industry, and should be given more credit for their crucial role in the sales operation.

Now such staff will have the opportunity to shine by completing a formal skills training course in order to become accredited as an ACF Car Finance “car cosmetician”.

The programme combines in-house learning with a two-day residential course tutored by valeting experts at the Letchworth headquarters of car care product leaders Autoglym.

According to Leyton Cooper, Divisional Group Buying Manager at ACF Car Finance, vehicle valeting is regarded by the company as a vitally important part of its business strategy:

“Our aim is to provide a buying experience for customers which is on a par with that provided by leading main dealers – and that includes preparing cars to motorshow standards of presentation.

“Achieving this state can take many hours for each vehicle, which is why all of our used car showrooms employ at least one full-time valeter with no other responsibilities.

“Their task is not just to bring cars up to a near-new appearance, but to remove every possible trace of previous ownership so that the vehicle appears as fresh as when it left the factory.

“Our valeters are provided with state of the art cleaning equipment, and the best possible cleaning and cosmetic products – but it’s ultimately their skills which deliver the perfect result.

“That’s why ACF Car Finance has decided to formalise its valet training procedure, and linked with an external skills provider who will also set a final examination of competence,” said Leyton.

Successful completion of the new training programme, he commented, could also put the company’s car valeters on the road to new career opportunities in the business:

“We have a very strong policy at ACF Car Finance of encouraging individual development, and many of our sales and management staff started out in more manual job roles.

“If someone shows evidence of a determination to succeed in any area of the business, we will encourage them to take their ambitions as far as possible,” said Leyton.

The company, he added, had recently decided to move exclusively to Autoglym products after an exhaustive test and comparison of all leading car care preparations.

ACF Car Finance specialises in supplying used cars, via a national showroom network, to the growing number of people whose credit records affect their borrowing ability.

France, Italy, Austria and new destination Bulgaria all seeing high demand for rentals this winter

British ski fans are booking car hire in all the top European destinations as heavy snow falls on resort pistes – and also branching out into less well-known resorts. The announcement comes from car hire website eRentals.co.uk, which advises Brits to get their ski trip car hire booked well before travelling.

The traditionally busy ski resorts throughout countries like France, Italy and Austria are experiencing high levels of car hire reservations, says eRentals.co.uk. However the website also points out that demand for car hire bookings in Bulgaria has surged by 50% compared to twelve months ago, as Brits look for more affordable, better value ski destinations. Among the most popular choices for ski trips this year is Bansko.

Briony Fairbairn, spokesperson for eRentals.co.uk, says: “As usual the ski resorts throughout France, Italy and Austria are proving as popular as ever this year, and we’ve seen high demand for rental bookings throughout the Alps and Pyrenees. However Bulgaria has surged in popularity this year as people seem to look for more affordable ski holidays in more unusual places.”

Thanks to budget airlines offering cheap flights to many destinations around Europe, plus also the availability of budget deals to rent a car in Bulgaria’s ski resorts, UK ski fans can get more for their money. The eRentals.co.uk currently has bargain car hire deals available from Sofia Airport starting at only £6 per day*.

Briony Fairbairn comments: “The heavy snow is seeing people book car hire in big numbers right now, and so we recommend getting organised and booking your rental vehicle well before travelling. Confused.com Reveals Most Drivers Oppose Road Light Switch Off

Confused.com has revealed that the government’s midnight switch-off of lights on UK roads, implemented since 2010, poses safety risks to drivers. As the shortest day of the year approaches, the car insurance expert reveals that 67% of UK motorists strongly oppose the switch off, with 47% of drivers feeling less confident when driving at night*.

Victims of the switch off currently include stretches of the M1, M2, M4, M5, M6, M27 and M54. These stretches of unlit motorway total 47.4 miles of darkness between the hours of 12 midnight and 5am**. According to Confused.com research, the biggest concerns for drivers are being worried about getting tired (20%) and not being able to see other road users (31%). 60% of drivers also don’t think that road signs are adequately lit at night.

According to research from the Journal of Sleep Research, these concerns are justified. Driving in the dark for just three hours can make drivers drive as badly as when drunk, with performance standards equating to the driver having 0.08% alcohol content in his blood – the national limit. By four and a half hours ‘dark driving’, these levels rise to 0.10%*** – shocking when one in seven people don’t take any breaks during a four-hour journey****.

Although a high proportion of motorists are less confident driving in the dark, the younger generations find a lack of road lighting actually encourages risk-taking, with 27% of drivers under 24 driving faster in the dark, and the same percentage again feeling “more relaxed” to the rules of the road.

Julie Townsend, Campaigns Director of Brake says: “Street lights are an important safety feature on our roads, so it’s not surprising so many drivers are worried about them being switched off. There may be fewer vehicles about at night, but when driving in the dark it’s harder to spot other road users and potential hazards, and you’re more likely to encounter dangers like people drink driving. If we see more crashes as a result of lights going off, it means more families suffering needless deaths and injuries, and it’s a false economy, because these crashes are a huge drain on health and emergency services.”

In a campaign to raise awareness of the risks posed to night drivers, Confused.com is petitioning for the Highways Agency to reconsider its decision to turn off the lights on some of the UK’s motorways and streets. This petition will be presented on 31st January 2012.

Gareth Kloet, Head of Car Insurance at Confused.com says: “Our research shows that drivers find driving in the dark a frightening experience and a reduction in motorway and street lighting exaggerates this. The safety of road users should still remain top priority – the government could even consider alternative measures such as energy saving light bulbs to help keep us safe on the roads this winter.”

Windmill Leasing Listed Among Top 50 UK Business Car Leasing Companies

Windmill Leasing, a business car leasing company, has announced that its placement on the Fleet News list of the top 50 fleets in the UK car leasing market.

Listed under its parent company name, ‘Agility Fleet,’ Windmill Leasing achieved a position on the Fleet News FN50 list based on the size of its fleet, which ranks among the largest selections nationwide.

The FN50 rating from the high profile car leasing specialists positions Windmill Leasing as a strong competitor in the business car leasing market, as the business car leasing company has the most extensive range of vehicles currently available to businesses in the UK.

Keith Townsend, Managing Director, Windmill Leasing, said: “Our recent entry into the FN50 list of largest car leasing fleets in the UK firmly establishes Windmill Leasing, as part of the wider Agility UK Group of Companies, as a leading player in the LCV and business car leasing and fleet management sectors.

“Our position in the FN50 is an external benchmark of the company’s continued success which has been built upon excellent levels of customer service in our two regional bases and in further locations across the UK. Our commitment to competitive pricing has also served to solidify our outstanding brand reputation in the UK business car leasing market.

“Much of our recent successful growth as a business has come on the back of the launch of Windmill Leasing as our brokerage division in 2009. In addition to this, Agility Fleet has now independently secured additional funding and the organisation will be looking to recruit third party, external brokers throughout the UK to nurture and support our current momentum.”

This latest achievement for Windmill Leasing supports a series of initiatives to raise brand awareness and continually improve overall service provision across the UK, through such ventures as a new user-friendly website and on-going investment in an expanding team.

In addition to this, the recent opening of a new regional office in Sheffield in August 2011 reflects the organisation’s refocused commitment to providing a local service with the support of a comprehensive nationwide infrastructure.

A ranking among the top 50 business car leasing companies in the UK affords Windmill Leasing further scope to utilise improved brand awareness in continuing to develop its customer-focussed service delivery.

RAC Issues First UK Approval For Dealer Inspection

ACF Car Finance Limited has become the first car dealership in Britain to have its own pre-sale vehicle inspections process accredited by the RAC.

It means customers are assured that the company’s 136-point quality and safety examination given to each car meets the exacting criteria applied to the RAC’s own inspections.

Until now, only repair garages with used car sales forecourts were permitted to display the “RAC Accredited” logo if the vehicles had been inspected by RAC engineers.

However, the RAC’s technical team said that the in-depth vehicle checks carried out on ACF Car Finance’s used cars are as rigorous as those employed by the RAC itself.

All cars offered for sale by the company will from now on carry the RAC endorsement in addition to being issued with an MoT certificate.

However, says Divisional Operations Manager at ACF Car Finance Mark Jones, the RAC accreditation doesn’t just mean that the vehicle has undergone a top-to-tyre assessment.

It also indicates that any faults found during the 136-point check have been fully remedied.

“We are now the first car dealership group in the country to have removed the uncertainty of buying a used vehicle with just the vendor’s assurance that the car is fault free,” said Mark.

“Gaining RAC accreditation for an inspection process requires compliance with a long list of criteria which ensures that all major aspects of reliability and safety are completely covered.

“It’s an exhaustive and time-consuming procedure, but at the end of it we know we’ll be offering for sale a car on which every key performance box has been ticked,” said Mark.

The inspection covers all principal mechanical and electrical components, plus bodywork and accessories, with any defects being highlighted for immediate repair.

According to Mark, ACF Car Finance’s national team of vehicle buyers is extremely selective about the cars it buys in for re-sale, and acquires only models representing the best in their class.

But despite this, he says, only one percent are given a clean bill of health at the inspection stage.

“The fact that the vast majority of cars require some kind of attention underlines the importance of our checks and the thoroughness with which they are made,” said Mark.

“The RAC accreditation is an independent endorsement of ACF Car Finance’s concern to provide customers with the best possible quality assurance,” he commented.

The company (www.ACFCarFinance.co.uk) specialises in supplying used cars, via a national showroom network, to the growing number of people whose credit records affect their borrowing ability.

Confused.com Reveals Most Popular Car Choices For Different Star Signs

Confused.com has unveiled the most popular car choices for the twelve signs of the Zodiac.

Aquarians, known for their eccentric streak, are 30% more likely to drive a Peugeot 106 than any other star sign. A Rover 620 is likely to be their second choice, according to Confused.com research.

Pisces, who are often regarded as alluring individuals, are most likely to be seen in a sporty little number. Research shows that drivers of a Mazda 2 Sport are 31% more likely to be Pisceans, who celebrate their birthday from 20th February to 20th March.

Always in search of adventure, the car of choice for an Aries is a Daewoo Kalos or an Alfa Romeo. Taureans widely regarded as cool, calm and collected individuals, which is reflected in the most popular choice of car the Mazda 2 Tamura.

Geminis, described as curious, thirsty for knowledge and mischievous, are most likely to be seen in a Hyundai 130 Comfort than other star sign. Motorists carrying the Cancer star sign are most likely to drive a Vauxhall to complement their caring and sensitive side.

Regarded as charismatic and fortunate, it is no surprise that Leos are more likely to drive a Land Rover than other star signs. The British classic complements their traits perfectly.

Virgo drivers, described as confident, successful and creative, are more likely to drive a Lexus and Scorpions, who are known to be wise, are 40% more likely thanother star signs to drive a Fiat 500, an economical car.

Vauxhall Corsa is the most popular car choice of the thoughtful and happy-go-lucky Librans. Sagittarians are 30% more likely than average to drive a Subaru Optimistic than other star signs.

Capricorns, are most likely to drive a Volkswagen Beetle, the popular car makes a statement, which contradicts their seemingly quiet nature.

Yasmin Boland of www.moonology.com said of the findings: “It’s very interesting to see the research here – there’s no doubt that astrology is a good predictor of so many personality traits, including which car you’re likely to drive,to how many speeding tickets you are likely to get.

“Fire signs (Aries, Leo and Sagittarius) are the speedy people. Water signs (Cancer and Scorpio) are the ones who want safety and comfort. Air signs (Gemini, Libra and Aquarius) are the ones who get the parking tickets because they get so caught up in what they’re doing they forget the time, and Earth signs (Taureans, Virgos and Capricorns) signs which portray a cool persona and easy going people, which they personality is reflected in their choice of car.”

Gareth Kloet, Head of car insurance at Confused.com, added: “A person’s choice of car has always been a topic of discussion and many people make judgments about the car people choose to drive.

“It’s interesting to know that the star sign you are born under can be a trigger to your choices. However, on a serious note, whatever car you choose, road safety is essential. We urge motorists to ensure they are covered adequately with their car insurance and to shop around for the best price.”

Car hire comparator partners with road safety charity to drive awareness during Road Safety Week

Carrentals.co.uk, the leading car hire comparison website which helps people book cheap hire from up to 50 top providers, announces its sixth ever ‘Road Sense’ campaign. The campaign, in partnership with road safety charity Brake, seeks to raise awareness of motoring safety issues among drivers of all ages.

The annual Road Sense campaign focuses on a key element of motoring, with this year seeing the initiative being consistent checks on tyres, brakes and engine as the winter weather sets in. Carrentals.co.uk and Brake are calling on motorists to get these vital checks carried out no matter what the impact on their household budget.

Gareth Robinson, Managing Director of Carrentals.co.uk, comments: “We are calling on drivers around the UK to be aware of the need for getting brakes and tyres checked regularly, particularly as the UK’s roads turn icier. This is the way to reduce the number of avoidable accidents on Britain’s motorways and roads throughout the winter.”

Brake is the UK’s leading road safety charity and has said recently that more UK youngsters die in car crashes today than die by any other means. Many accidents are caused by driving too fast and reckless overtaking, with one out of every four fatal accidents on UK roads involving someone aged below the age of 25.

“We are proud to work with organisations like Brake on our Road Sense campaigns,” Gareth continued. “Motorists would be wise to pay attention to the words of Brake since they really know their subject. We all need to pull together to improve the situation and lower the amount of serious accidents.”

Katie Shephard, director at Brake, says: “We enjoy working with companies like Carrentals.co.uk who seek to push the road safety agenda through initiatives Road Sense. Throughout this year’s Road Safety Week we at Brake want young people to become increasingly aware of the importance of driving sensibly and to ‘have a heart at the wheel’.”

The Carrentals.co.uk Road Sense site offers road safety advice as well as new offers, including discounts on winter clothing and reflective gear for children and adults from Outdoor Look and BrightKidz.

Carrentals.co.uk is the leading car hire comparison site comparing prices in over 15,000 locations worldwide including France, Spain and car hire in Ireland, with pick up locations including car hire in Dublin, Cork and Shannon.

The Waiting’s Nearly Over For The Winner of Superbikes Tickets…

The waiting’s nearly over for the winner of Superbikes tickets in Sorrymate.com’s massively successful Motorcycle Live show draw.

The lucky winner of tickets to a round of next year’s British Superbikes Championship in a competition held by motorbike accident claims specialist Sorrymate.com at Motorcycle Live to will be announced next week.

Sorrymate.com managing director Fergus Dalgarno will draw the name of the winner, picked from among those who used their skill to guess the mileage on a rear motorcycle tyre which was a feature of the company’s stand at the NEC show last week.

The entrant whose guess was the closest to the actual figure on each day of the show went forward into the final draw. More than 3,000 entries were made over the show’s nine days, in what Sorrymate.com’s Paul Dutton said was “possibly the best event we have exhibited at for quite some time.”

He added: “We were really pleased to see the biking public getting right behind our stance of supporting them, by making them aware of their right to appoint their own solicitor in the event of a non-fault accident.”

Several thousand Sorrymate.com ‘SMIDSY’ cards – based on the acronym ‘Sorry mate I didn’t see you’, from which the company gets its name – were also given away. Paul added: “We were even more taken aback by the incredibly positive reactions we had to these cards, which are designed as a simple way of making bikers aware of how they can best help and protect themselves in the event of an accident that is not their fault.

“It’s just one example of how we at Sorrymate.com are continually striving to educate the biking community about their rights and entitlements, with such initiatives as our ‘SMIDSY’ cards, which give a quick advice checklist for anyone involved in an accident.”

In the coming months, the Sorrymate.com team will be hitting the road, visiting bike clubs to give talks about their specially-tailored advice and legal representation services for the biking community.

“If anyone would like us to come along to their club or meeting place, just contact me at paul@sorrymate.com,” Paul concluded.
