President of Volkswagen AG reiterates the commitment of the group to Spain

Dr. Martin Winterkorn, president of the Volkswagen AG Board of Directors, has participated in the Hispano-German Entrepreneurs Meeting, which took place in the executive headquarters of the government, and which counted on the presence of the President of Government, Mariano Rajoy, and the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel.

“Volkswagen will continue its close link with Spain in the future,” assured Dr. Winterkorn during his address before the heads of the principal German and Spanish companies. According to the president of the Volkswagen Group, Spain has played an exemplary role in the last few weeks, having taken brave but successful decisions. “Of course, results are not achieved from one day to the next, but the direction is the correct one. I am sure that they will be achieved,” he added.

The President of the Volkswagen AG Board of Directors highlighted the role of the Group within the automobile industry in Spain: “The activities of our Group represent 25% of the Spanish automotive industry and, with the SEAT brand, Volkswagen and Audi, we are among the companies with the highest volume of business in Spain. Besides, we are the major industrial investor in the area of research and development, and we employ more than 18,000 people between the factories of Pamplona and SEAT Martorell.”

Regarding the current situation of the automobile market Dr. Winterkorn pointed out:
“It is true that SEAT is especially suffering the steep drop of the domestic Spanish market, but it is also true that it has the product and the adequate team, so that when the market recuperates, the brand will grow exponentially. SEAT will continue to be a fundamental element in the global strategy of the Volkswagen Group,” he added.

Dr. Winterkorn also made reference to “the high rate of youth unemployment,” which poses “a complicated mortgage upon the future of Europe. Facing it should be the political as well as the economic objective.” He also confirmed the commitment of the company to future generations: “With the ‘Start Up Europe’ Program, we are creating professional opportunities for young engineers. And also here in Spain we are manifesting our commitment with the implementation of dual training,” he said.

“The Volkswagen Group is a perfect example for demonstrating that the ‘European Idea’ has future potential. We have 12 brands in 7 countries of the EU that work together successfully. At Volkswagen, we believe in Europe. And we are willing to give our support so that Spanish and European industries can be strong and solvent in the future,” he concluded.

Most Motorists Would Keep Quiet About Accidents, Survey Finds

A new survey from the Co-operative Motor Group has indicated that a majority of drivers would keep quiet if they collided with a friend or neighbour’s car by accident, although there was some variation in honesty between motorists of different age groups.

Of 2,000 people surveyed, just 24 per cent said they would ensure they told a friend in the event of a prang with their vehicle, while 26 per cent felt they would inform a neighbour. However, only one in eight participants said they would tell a stranger that they had crashed into their motor. A third, meanwhile, said they would come clean with a boss or work colleague.

The poll also suggested that older drivers were more honest than their younger counterparts, with 72 per cent of those aged 55 and over saying that they would seek to track down owner of the car they had hit regardless of who they were – as opposed to just 40 per cent of those aged between 18 and 24.

“Any claim you make could mean your insurance goes up when you come to renew your policy,” said Co-operative Group head of motor insurance Grant Mitchell. “It can be tempting to ignore minor scrapes or faults with your car, but it’s always best to get these fixed to avoid problems further down the line.”

There were also some differences in straightforwardness between drivers in different parts of the UK. While just 10.82 per cent of motorists in north-west England would seek to dodge the blame for a minor collision, this figure rose to 22.09 per cent among those in London – the area with the highest proportion of dishonest drivers.

Yorkshire and the Humber, the East Midlands, the south-east and Northern Ireland were also among the most honest regions, whilst their counterparts in the north-east, Scotland, Wales and the south-east were most keen to keep their heads down in the hope they’d get away with it.

The Co-operative Motor Group Launch Mobile Website and QR Code Application

A surge in demand from consumers for smartphone-enabled websites is behind an innovative, new service being offered by The Co-operative Motor Group.

The Co-operative Motor Group, which operates 23 franchised main dealer showrooms across the East Midlands, Yorkshire and the North West, has launched a new smartphone-enabled website at http://www.co-operativemotorgroup.co.uk/, which is packed full of content and allows visitors to carry out vehicle searches of new car dealerships and book services & MOTs from their handheld devices – all within a few clicks.

At a Google motoring conference earlier this year it was revealed that mobile searches were soaring, and that at the weekend smartphone browsing exceeded desktop searches. It was also predicted that by 2013 mobile users will exceed desktop for the first time. Nearly half (45 per cent) of Internet users accessed the Internet via a mobile phone in 2011, according to new data released by ONS in the summer, almost double from last year when the number stood at seven per cent.

The soaring interest in smartphones –now accounting for 37 per cent of all mobile phone sales – has also resulted in The Co-operative Motor Group introducing Quick Response (QR) codes on individual vehicles, which, when scanned, link consumers to additional content via iPhone, Android and Blackberry devices, and provide customers with a ‘silent salesperson’ if they are either shopping outside of normal working hours or forecourt browsing. Users scan the QR code in used car dealers with their smartphone and full details of the vehicle including mileage, service history and accessories is automatically downloaded and saved.

Alison Ottaway, Group Brand Development Manager with The Co-operative Motor Group, said: “We realise that not all potential customers have the time to visit our showrooms during normal working hours, so the launch of our new, smartphone-enabled website and associated QR code technology means that they can shop or research a vehicle and get full background details at any time – all via their smartphone or handheld device.

She added, “This is cutting-edge technology that is only now becoming popular in the UK, but over the coming months it will be increasingly used, and we believe will become the norm in a very short time span.”

Phill Jones, commercial director at Motors.co.uk, said: “Now is the right time for car dealers to address how best to optimise their websites for use via smartphone browsers. A really great mobile site can act as a clear acquisition channel to introduce new users to the desktop site.”

The Co-operative Motor Group wins accolade for its re-branding

The new lease of life which re-branding The Co-operative Motor Group from Sunwin Motors last year gave the business has been recognised by a top national award.

The transformation of the used cars dealer was named ‘Best Marketing Initiative’ at the 2011 Automotive Management Awards, widely regarded as the motoring industry’s equivalent of the Oscars. Mike Austin, Group Managing Director, collected the award on behalf of all his staff from BBC News presenter Kate Silverton.

And the proud workforce of The Co-operative Motor Group know that the award was in honour of much more than the physical work done in transforming that group’s 23 sites spread across northern England and the Midlands.

The Group’s Brand Development Manager, Alison Ottaway, who had been in charge of implementing the project said: “The re-brand was about so much more than simply changing the car dealership fascia or the detail on car number plates.

“It was about communicating the Co-operative difference at every step of the way, with no marketing gimmicks, no hard sell, and no pushy salespeople – just outstanding customer service and the goal of excellence in everything we do.” She added: “This is a great endorsement and recognition from the industry for what we’re achieving in terms of setting the benchmark for what customers can expect from their automotive retailing experience.”

Continued Success For ACF Car Finance

The UK’s leading specialist sub-prime car dealer, ACF Car Finance Limited, has reported an increase in demand for its services with the business demonstrating continued success during a difficult period.

ACF Car Finance specialises in helping customers to find the car they’re looking for and in helping to arrange finance at a monthly repayment to suit their budget and circumstances. The market leading company recently reported its highest monthly volume of customer applications, in the last 18 months of trading.

This continues from the success announced earlier this year in January where ACF Car Finance reported the highest number of customer applications ever processed in a single day, demonstrating its healthy trading position and emphasising its market leader status even further.

Norman Beaumont, Sales and Marketing Director for ACF Car Finance, commented: “No company has remained unscathed throughout 2009 as the market has been so unsettled, but there are encouraging signs which improve the outlook for 2010.“We believe that our success is due to a mixture of elements. Firstly the trading environment has changed and competition within the market has decreased, and there is a definite increase in the numbers of customers in the sub-prime and near-prime marketplace. This increase however also means that our customers are now more discerning than ever before and we have had to react to that changing customer profile. By using new channels to acquire vehicles we have been able to meet the new demands, giving customers exactly what they want, by stocking our branches with a wider choice of cars across all price ranges.

“Secondly, we have made a number of strategic business decisions in order to make the company more sustainable. By undergoing certain cost saving initiatives and streamlining the business, the company is leaner than it has ever been before, putting us in a much stronger position within the market.

New Used car Website Has Wheels and is Screeching Out the Door

Vehicletext.com a UK based fast growing used car advertising service, for both new and used cars. They have simplified every detail of buying and selling a car.

Thousands of buyers are using this service to purchase or sell vehicles, ranging from Alfa Romeos to Used Volvos. If you have a car to sell, regardless of make and model, you could join the thousands that are already reaping the benefits for as little as 10 pounds. 10 pounds is all it takes to list your vehicle for a period of 2 weeks.

The creator of this site experienced great personal difficulty when trying to sell the car of a family member, and has used the advantages and disadvantages experienced, to create a site that makes selling a car as easy as possible.

“Not to long ago my mother wanted to sell her car so I decided to help her as I thought that this would be a simple task. How wrong I was! I decided to do some research as to where I could list it and how much it would cost. It turned out to be a very expensive and time consuming process. I placed a few adverts online and in the local paper. It ended up costing me a small fortune and placing an advert was a tricky process.”

Recent users of this site have claimed that it provided them with an effective solution, especially as a lot of them have also had bad experiences in the past. Vehicletext.com provided them with an easy and efficient solution without any stress or unnecessary worry.

Chief Executive of The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) in the UK stated in May, 2009, that, ‘buying a second hand car is a major and potentially difficult purchase, given the fact that many consumers lack the necessary experience or knowledge to make an informed buying decision’. Sites like Vehicletext.com recognise these difficulties faced by the consumer and provide as many details as possible to alleviate these concerns.

A Vehicle Text Spoke person said:

Queries are important and the dedicated customer service team at Vehicletext.com take your queries seriously. Any possible question you may have regarding a car sale or purchase will be answered thoroughly.

It has been said that the comprehensive customer support team can even handle the most difficult of queries.

You will find this competitive site packed with quality features such as ‘real’ images, descriptions, car buying advice, finance options and insurance. This website is not just for personal sales and purchases, as dealerships can also take advantage of the web presence to expand their businesses further.

Chester Firm In Driving Seat For Children In Need

ACF Car Finance Limited, based in Chester, has shown its support for national charity Children in Need after donating a car to raise funds for the renowned BBC appeal.

ACF Car Finance, which specialises in providing quality used cars and helping to arrange tailored car finance to meet each customers’ individual needs, donated a part-exchanged Vauxhall Vectra for the auction held on the 19th November. The auction was organised by British Car Auctions (BCA) in Walsall as part of the national fundraising campaign taking place across the UK for Children in Need.

Leyton Cooper, Group Buying Manager of ACF Car Finance, commented: “We are delighted to show our support for this worthy cause. There was a good auction performance on the night and the car achieved over 140% of CAP average, so we’re pleased that despite the financial climate people are digging deep to give as much as possible to Children in Need.”

This donation is the latest event in the firm’s long line of charitable activities throughout 2009, for a variety of worthy causes including the automotive and partner industry’s own charity BEN.

Introducing an Online Cheaper and Easier Way to Sell and Buy Vehicles

Buying and selling used cars just got easier. Gone are the days when people had to rely on the print medium to place their advertisements and wait endlessly for potential customers to turn up. Moreover, they were still not guaranteed about the genuineness of the customer and could end up wasting a lot of time with such casual visitors.

At Vehicle Text, they can place advertisements for buying or selling cars online for a period of two weeks at just £10. The car advertised for sale gets the benefit of exposure to many thousands of potential buyers. All that is required to be done is to post the make, model, mileage covered, color and other such essential details of the car on the site and wait for the potential buyer to make the contact. It makes the entire process transparent and seamless without any middlemen involvement and that is advantageous to both the parties.

Similarly it is very convenient to look for a car to purchase. The site has an easy to use search facility that will throw up results based on price, area and the model sought. The seller can then be contacted directly to negotiate prices. One great advantage of buying through Vehicle Text is the warranty that accompanies the purchase making it possible for a buyer to take the vehicle back to the dealer in case of any malfunction. That is a departure from purchases at auction sites where there is no warranty provided.

The registration process is a simple one where the member is just required to provide some basic information such as name, email and contact number. This is a necessary step to list the vehicle on sale with the site.

The other useful features of the site include links to facilitate insurance, financing and HPI check. It would indeed be very reassuring to have the vehicle checked for its history including any previous damage, CO2 rating, inspection report and other relevant details before purchasing the vehicle.

Car enthusiasts and aficionados can pick up lot of useful information about how to care for the vehicles and look up some interesting reviews about them on the site. News about the automobile industry and other relevant articles pertaining to cars feature quite prominently and that is also likely to go down well with visitors to the site.

People who wish to buy or sell cars will thus find this initiative very beneficial for them and that in turn augurs well for the automobile industry.

The Co-Operative Accelerates Brand To Cover Motor Business

The Co-operative Group today unveiled the latest phase in the rebranding of its family of businesses – a positive change for almost 20 sites in its £250 million motor retailing operation.

The rebrand of 19 showrooms as The Co-operative Motor Group is part of The Co-operative’s £1.5 billion re-branding exercise – the largest in UK corporate history.

The dealerships, which until now, have traded under the Sunwin Motors brand, will be renamed in a move that marks their formal induction into the family of businesses, which includes food, funerals, travel, pharmacy, motors, financial services and legal services. More than two-thirds of the Group’s 5,000 outlets have been rebranded over the last two years.

Mike Austin, Managing Director of The Co-operative Motor Group said: “Sunwin has worked hard to establish a trusted reputation in the Midlands and North of England, and we intend to build on that by adopting The Co-operative’s strong brand.

“This is a name change only but it is the right time to make that change. The relaunch of The Co-operative brand has been a major success, and the financial performance of The Co-operative Group is stronger than ever, as is trust in our brand.”

The first of the Group’s dealerships to be rebranded will be the Renault dealership in Preston on October 27. The rebrand programme will be rolled out to the rest of the dealerships over the next (x) months.

The Co-operative Motor Group, formerly Sunwin, which represents nine major motor manufacturers (Renault, Nissan, Mazda, Peugeot, Fiat, Suzuki, Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep), has reported sales of more than £250 million for the last financial year, and in the space of just over two years it has refitted more than two-thirds of its 4,300 used cars outlets with the new look.

Black Is The UK’s Most Popular Car Colour, Says Autoquake.com

Autoquake.com has revealed that black is currently the most popular colour for used cars among shoppers with the online used car retailer. Following usability improvements to the site, visitors have been able to search for used cars by colour for almost a month and of those who used this facility the majority looked for black.

autoquake

With an average of 1000 cars for sale and 10,000 visitors per day, only slightly less than two thirds (65.9%) of searches were for a black vehicle. That’s nearly six times as many who searched for silver (11.5%), usually reckoned to be the most popular colour among second-hand car buyers.

Superstition seems to have played a part in many shoppers’ preferences. Green is often said to be an unlucky colour for a car. Just 0.09% of Autoquake.com’s used car buyers looked for a green machine.

Other colours were way down Autoquake.com buyers’ wish list. Red polled just 6.6%, only just ahead of grey on 5.7%. Blue was preferred by just 5.3% of shoppers.

One colour that used car buyers usually avoid is white, but with iPods and other upmarket consumer goods making white more fashionable nearly one in 20 shoppers searched for a white car.

It might seem like a matter of personal taste, but there’s more to choosing the colour of a car than just picking a favourite shade. It pays for buyers to choose wisely if they want to maximise the value of their car. Although second in the eyes of Autoquake.com’s website users, silver is usually reckoned to be the safest colour for solid resale values. Perhaps it’s not everyone’s favourite, but it’s smart, understated and won’t frighten many buyers off. Just as importantly, it’s not a fashionable, up-to-the-minute colour, which might look great on the driveway today but seem naff in three or four years.

Red seems to be the big loser at the moment. The searches made by Autoquake.com users reinforce other recent surveys which have shown that red is less popular than it was in the ’80s and ’90s.

The trend seems to be to move away from vivid, in-your-face colour choices to something more sober, perhaps reflecting the desire to consume less conspicuously in difficult economic times. This could also help to explain the popularity of grey, the favoured choice of more than 1-in-20 Autoquake.com users.

About Autoquake.com
Autoquake.com is the UK’s largest online car retailer. Founded in 2005 with the goal to provide a better used car buying experience, Autoquake.com currently helps around 1000 buyers a month.

GM And Chrysler Bankruptcies Bring Worries About Warranties and Auto Insurance

With the recently filed bankruptcies of both GM and Chrysler approved, consumers are flooding social media sites, blogs and advice columns with questions about car warranties and auto insurance. According to research conducted by FreeInsuranceAdvice.com, these questions primarily fall into three categories:

• Will car warranties be honored by the manufacturers and dealers?
• Does the bankruptcy filing impact existing auto insurance policies?
• How will outstanding car loans be affected?

Car warranties will be honored
A majority of the postings were related to whether GM and Chrysler car warranties would be honored. According to an interview in USAToday with Steve Harris, General Motors’ vice president of global communications, the answer is yes. In addition to the company’s backing, the government’s Warranty Commitment Plan was announced in March to reassure buyers of General Motors and Chrysler vehicles that warranty claims would be honored during the companies’ restructurings.

Auto insurance policies need to be monitored
Most people have insurance directly through major insurance companies and those policies are not affected by the bankruptcies. The financial services groups of both GM (GMAC Financial Services) and Chrysler (Chrysler Financial) are separate companies with strong financial records, despite their parent companies’ problems. It is expected that they will be affected negatively only to a small degree and for a short period of time as the companies emerge from bankruptcy. However, consumers who do have their insurance carried by these financial service groups should check with their insurance agents to ensure that coverage is adequate and continuous along with getting the best car insurance advice possible.

“Consumers are rightfully nervous but the sky is not falling,” says Michael Crosson, Publisher of FreeInsuranceAdvice.com. “These two major car manufacturers should emerge stronger, leaner and certainly more focused on creating better products. This may even include better and longer warranties and better insurance offerings. At FreeInsuranceAdvice.com, our goal is to provide the most up-to-date information as the market changes.”

Car loans unchanged
Other consumers were concerned about being credited for payments made to the financial services groups of the bankrupt companies. Consumers who have loans should continue to make their payments, according to federal authorities supervising the bankruptcies. However, for these finance companies the future is far from rosy. “Clearly, auto finance delinquencies are increasing,” says Bradley Rubin, automotive sector specialist with BNP Paribas in an interview in TheStreet.com. “We think there will be a significant increase in auto finance delinquencies this year.”

FreeInsuranceAdvice.com is a consumer information service center that provides a wide range of articles and helpful resources on auto, home, health and life insurance advice. The website was launched in March of 2009 and is one of the largest repositories of teen car insurance information available online. The company is headquartered in Gold River, CA.

With The FTC “Red Flags Rule” Deadline August 1, 2009, Fast Approaching, Ford Dealerships In Denton, Sherman And Denison, Texas Are Already Well Ahead Of The August Deadline Thanks To The Expertise Of Lionheart Assurance Solutions, LP

The FTC’s new Red Flags Rule mandates an August 1, 2009 deadline for every US auto dealership to adopt a formal program to prevent and respond to customers purchasing vehicles with stolen identities. Just this week, one dealership in Houston, Texas found itself dealing with 11 vehicles fraudulently sold to an identity thief.

lionheartassurancesolutions.com

Ford dealerships in Denton, Sherman and Denison, Texas are already well ahead of the August deadline. Over the past 3 months, these dealerships have worked with the Dallas/Fort Worth office of Lionheart Assurance Solutions, LP to prepare for the Red Flags Rule. Lionheart Assurance began by training all of their executives, creating an awareness of the new “culture of security” the FTC is expecting. Then, those executive teams began to communicate this new process to every employee in the dealership.

Employees were scheduled to attend Lionheart Assurance training sessions specifically dealing with their exposure to identity theft both directly and indirectly. For example, what if a service technician works on a vehicle and the customer has inadvertently left a document in the vehicle with personal identifying information? Maybe it’s just their payroll check stub, but the outcome could be costly for the dealer if not handled properly.

Michael McCoy, identity theft expert and author of the book, “The Silent Crime: What You Need to Know About Identity Theft”, states in his introduction, “…consumers would rather ignore risk and go on with life than fret and worry about potential identity theft. In other words, most people would rather exhibit ‘blissful ignorance’ regarding identity theft loss than proceed with the confusing, complex, time consuming, and expensive process of securing and protecting their identity”. Most of us simply are not aware of our exposure to identity theft and the trail of personal identifying information we leave unsecured.

Lionheart Assurance Solutions, LP reports that after completion of the training, employees find they change procedures in their offices and more fully verify customer’s identities. Some auto dealers are now recording finger prints on the closing sales documents.

A confidentiality document is signed by every employee indicating their understanding and completion of the training provided by Lionheart Assurance. In addition, a comprehensive identity theft product is made available as a voluntary employee benefit. Employees are given tips to protect their identities at home, such as how to protect their mail, credit cards, social security numbers and driver’s license numbers from identity thieves.

Lionheart Assurance provides periodic updates of the employee policy and trains new employees as they are hired.

Pat Parker, Sr. VP of Business Development and Training for Lionheart Assurance said, “Our role is to not only assist auto dealers in understanding how to improve security, but also to help in mitigating their liability associated with data breaches. It’s significant because if dealers don’t put a plan in place by the August 1 deadline, the FTC can fine them as much as $2,500 for selling a vehicle to a buyer with a stolen identity.” Unfortunately, the consequences for auto dealers don’t stop there. Each subsequent violation can carry a fine of up to $11,000.

In servicing auto dealers, Lionheart Assurance calls on specially trained Agents, certified to assist in the identity theft mitigation process.

As August fast approaches, buyers beware – you may find auto dealerships will ask more questions to confirm your identity and ask for other forms of identification, much like the retail industry has begun to put in place. An increasing number of dealerships now display notices that they have taken proactive steps to protect non-public information for both customers and employees.

About Lionheart Assurance Solutions, LP

As part of a comprehensive affirmative defense strategy, Certified Identity Theft Risk Management Specialists (CITRMS) conduct company-wide identity theft awareness training for all employees, and group identity theft protection and legal access plans are made available to all employees as payroll deduction benefits.

Lionheart Assurance also offers employee group legal plans designed to enhance worker productivity by helping employees keep their focus on their work instead of on personal problems.
