Europcar Reveals Ace Of Spades As The Top In-Car Tune

Europcar, the leader in car hire services in Europe for leisure and business users, is on the hunt for the best in-car karaoke singer.

With its fun Caraoke Competition for the summer, Europcar is calling on the public to post their personal performances in their ‘car’ on Facebook. The most entertaining performance, as voted for by visitors to Europcar’s Facebook page, will win the grand prize of a Fiat 500 car.

“You only need to sit in a traffic jam and look at the driver in the car next to you or behind you to realise that in-car singing is a great stress reliever,” said Ken McCall, Managing Director, Europcar UK. “So we thought we’d mount our own hunt for the best in-car karaoke singer with our Caraoke Competition. And there’s a great incentive; the best performance voted for by visitors to our Facebook page will win a Fiat 500 car.”

Marking the launch of the competition, Europcar asked its own UK staff about their in-car singing habits.

More than 88% admitted to being secret in-car singers and the favourite song to sing at the top of their lungs whilst in the car was ‘Ace of Spades’ by Motorhead. Least favourite was pop classic ‘Dreadlock Holiday’ by 10cc. The top 3 selected songs were ‘Ace of Spades’, ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’ by Toploader and ‘The Final Countdown’ by Europe.

The competition plays on the unspoken but often witnessed, urge motorists have to sing out loud in their car, when they hear their favourite tune on the radio. With so many singers and wannabe performers entering talent shows but falling short of their big break, Europcar’s Caraoke provides a great opportunity for the more eclectic singers and entertainers to prove their worth.

The idea of the Europcar Caraoke Competition is to inspire people to show their star quality and get them to record their favourite song from a list of 10 classics including the Troggs hit, ‘Wild Thing’ and ‘Lady Marmalade’ by Labelle and then upload their videos to Facebook using YouTube’s API feed. Entrants are encouraged to campaign for themselves by collecting votes for their Caraoke videos through their own Facebook friends and groups.

In addition to the grand prize, a series of weekly prizes will be given until August 22nd including Amazon e-vouchers, Eastern Airways flights, an overnight stay plus dinner and breakfast at a Hand Picked Hotels property, Garmin Sat Nav systems, Samsung Galaxy Tablets, Driving Experience packages and Spa Days at the luxurious 5 Star hotel resort Stoke Park. Weekly prize winners will be selected via a prize draw giving entrants more chances to win prizes.

Promoting the competition, Europcar will also be hosting two road show events to encourage shoppers to participate in its Caraoke Competition. Europcar is encouraging people to make a date in their diaries to exhibit their talents by recording their videos in the Europcar Caraoke car at the road shows taking place in Bluewater, Kent at the end of July and the Bullring, Birmingham on Saturday August 11th.

Europcar Searches Southern England For The Latest Karaoke Singing Sensation

Europcar, the leader in car hire services in Europe for leisure and business users, has launched a competition to find the best in-car karaoke singer in the UK. And shoppers visiting Bluewater on the 28th July 2012 will have a chance to record their entry at a special Europcar roadshow.

The car is the stage in the latest cutting-edge and engaging social media campaign from Europcar, which plays on the karaoke culture and builds on the huge popularity of talent shows. With so many singers and wannabe performers entering talent shows but failing to hit the big time, Europcar’s Caraoke Competition provides a great opportunity for the more eclectic singers and entertainers to prove their worth and drive away in a cool Fiat 500.

The idea is to get people recording their favourite song from a list of 10 classics, including the hit by Europe, ‘The Final Countdown’ and ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’ by Toploader and then uploading their videos to Facebook. Then consumers will be encouraged to vote for their favourite videos and share them on Facebook using the YouTube API feed. The performance with the most votes will win the grand prize of a Fiat 500.

Whilst motorists can film their own videos in their own time, Europcar is making it even easier for Kent residents to join in the fun and show off their talents by hosting a special live roadshow at the Bluewater shopping centre on 28th July on the Ground Floor, outside Marks & Spencer, from 10:30 – 18:00. Budding karaoke performers will be able to record their own videos for immediate uploading to Facebook.

In addition to the grand prize, a series of weekly prizes will be given out until August 22nd including Amazon e-vouchers, Eastern Airways flights, an overnight stay plus dinner and breakfast at the exclusive Hand Picked Hotel, Garmin Sat Nav systems, Samsung Galaxy Tablets, Driving Experience packages and Spa Days at the luxurious 5 Star hotel resort Stoke Park. Weekly prize winners will be selected via a prize draw giving entrants more chances to win prizes.

“Our job, as market leader is to set the standard across the board,” said Ken McCall, Managing Director, Europcar UK Group. “From car hire to social media strategies and campaigns our objective is to keep Europcar at the forefront of the marketplace by implementing innovative techniques that drive the business forward and change consumer expectations of car hire.

“Caraoke is a light-hearted campaign and we want Kent shoppers and motorists to get into the groove with us and have some fun. With talent shows becoming increasingly popular, Europcar is urging shoppers to come down to Bluewater and show-off their singing voices. A new car could be theirs, and it might be the big break they’ve been looking for.”

Centralised administration brings 80 jobs to the North East/Darlington

The market leader in the provision of light commercial van hire and associated fleet solutions, Northgate Vehicle Hire, is increasing its presence in the North East by adding 80 administrative jobs to the 300 already employed at the headquarters in Darlington, as the company continues to centralise many operational functions. The increase of almost 30 per cent will bring more efficient fleet management within Northgate.

The newly appointed administrative teams have been put in place to serve the increased flow of fleet management tasks, while attention has also been given to colleagues at depots and workshops to reinforce their part in ensuring the smooth running of customer related tasks. The team will focus on three key areas for Northgate: Damage Recharge Management, Scheduling and Compliance and Asset Administration.

Reaffirming Northgate’s commitment to the North East, the administrative move is the latest in a series of developments for the organisation. In May 2010 Northgate began the process of bringing its 20 separate businesses together to deliver a constant service across the country. And a new CRM system has since been implemented, reiterating Northgate’s commitment to efficiency, effectiveness and improved customer service.

Jonathan Pearce, Marketing Manager for Northgate Vehicle Hire, said:
“An honest reflection on the existing administration tasks pointed to the need for change in order to ensure that this area of the business delivered service levels congruent with those in other areas of Northgate. This is an extremely exciting time for the business and we’re thrilled to have brought new jobs to the North East, especially at a time when the climate is notoriously difficult. The centralisation of operations has enabled us to increase our loyal and committed workforce and we look forward to building on this further over the coming years.”

The business function of the new administration team will deliver consistency across the UK as well as helping relieve workshops of their admin tasks, freeing up their time to concentrate on other aspects such as customer service. The individual functions will include the following:

– Damage Recharge Management involves all dealings with suppliers and booking vehicles in for repair, as well as recharging to the customer.
– Scheduling and Compliance is concerned with the scheduling of all maintenance events such as MOTs, services and tyre changes.
– Asset Administration is a crucial function that ensures that the customer receives their tax discs, V5 documents and any penalty charges in a timely and efficient manner.

Northgate Invests In Infrastructure With £300,000 Glasgow Re-Development

Market leaders in flexible vehicle hire and fleet solutions, Northgate Vehicle Hire, has this week unveiled its new look Glasgow depot after investing £300,000 in the existing infrastructure. To drive process efficiencies for customers and offer an unrivalled experience, the re-development has taken place over three months.

As part of Northgate’s £1.5m investment across the UK this year, the Glasgow site was the natural starting point due to the size of its market area. Striving to set new benchmarks for depots and facilities across the group, the Glasgow site will be used as the blueprint for all 62 depots.

Transforming the dated and operationally unsuitable site into a hub that boasts a dedicated reception area for van hire and workshop customers, two plasma TVs with information points; one of which will display a live workshop planner so customers can track the maintenance progress of their vehicles; a refreshment and working area with Wi-Fi access for customers, a new open plan back office to improve operational performance and communication between departments, and a canteen for colleagues, the new site is more in keeping with a retail environment and has a new dedicated customer parking area and entrance and a fully landscaped exterior. Corporate signage has also been introduced.

Simon Ridley, Northgate’s Operations Director North, commented:
“The suitability of our existing sites has been an area we’ve wanted to review for a long time. The fleet has grown substantially over the last 15 years and it was time our facilities reflected the standard of service offered.”

He continued:
“We have spent around £300,000 reconfiguring the Glasgow site to make it more efficient. Alongside providing our colleagues with a working environment that allows them to carry out their jobs effectively, process efficiencies will improve significantly to ensure that our customers have an unrivalled experience with every visit.”

The Glasgow workshop, in particular, has seen a significant development with the re-design allowing optimum operational efficiency and workflow, as well as the mechanics benefitting from updated equipment.

Northgate crowns Broderick Brothers as Vehicle Branding Award winners

Northgate Vehicle Hire has announced Broderick Brothers as the winner of its Vehicle Branding Awards, due to the eye-catching livery for the Broderick’s Bars and Cakes brand. Beating over 100 entries to the top spot, Broderick’s took home €1,500 of Northgate Vehicle Hire workshop vouchers.

The judges at Northgate awarded the prize to Broderick Brothers due to the creativity and attention to detail of the vehicle design, bringing the brand’s identity to life through the use of bright colors, inventive designs and characters.

Bernard Broderick commented on the award win:
“We are so proud to have won Northgate’s Vehicle Branding Awards as we have put so much work and effort into making The Chocolate Rocket campaign a big success. Since appearing on The Apprentice last year we have seen people becoming more and more interested and excited by the Broderick’s brand, so having our vehicles branded was the next logical step. We’d like to thank Northgate for the brilliant prize and for supporting Broderick’s Bars and Cakes.”

Lee Saunders, Regional Sales Manager at Northgate Vehicle Hire, said:
“We were thoroughly impressed with the designs that the brothers put together; the whole team at Northgate thought the vehicles stood out from the crowd, clearly identified the company’s offering, provided prominent contact details and oozed the brand’s personality with the bright colours, whacky designs, character replicas and quirky one liners. Broderick’s is a very deserving winner but we would also like to thank everyone who entered for their contributions.”

In January 2011 Broderick’s Bars and Cakes launched The Chocolate Rocket campaign to encourage people all over Ireland to support Irish businesses and Spar retailers, which have stocked the Broderick’s Bars and Cakes over the past year. The Vehicle Branding Awards were hosted in Ireland and held in association with Fleet Transport magazine.

Northgate has been trading across Ireland for over a decade and is the market leading commercial contract hire company in the UK operating over 62,000 vehicles in 60 locations. Northgate Vehicle Hire celebrates 2011 vehicle monitoring success

Northgate Vehicle Hire, market leaders in flexible contract hire and fleet solutions, is celebrating a successful year after the triumph of its vehicle monitoring telematics system. Proven to save up to 20% off fuel costs and 15% off overtime claims, vehicle monitoring has been delivering 24/7 fleet visibility for Northgate’s customers throughout 2011.

The fleet manager that never sleeps, Northgate’s vehicle monitoring provides in depth reporting and data to allow customers to measure efficiency and ensures productivity levels remain high. It also fulfills duty of care responsibilities by identifying specific training or discipline requirements, which is a key area of focus for fleet managers worried about the safety of lone drivers. Alerted when a vehicle’s movements differ from those planned, the telematics system has seen personal vehicle use for Northgate customers slashed.

Lisa Tomlinson, Fleet Manager of Cruden Property Services, said:
“The product has proved to be very favourable by all of our management team. We are able to locate drivers who are closer to emergency jobs saving us time and money rather than sending somebody else who is further away. As well as fuel savings and overtime costs we have increased productivity and trimmed personal vehicle use, both by 15%.”

Stuart Fairbrother, Head of Sales Non-Rental Products at Northgate Vehicle Hire explains how easy it is to set Vehicle Monitoring up:
“We don’t require any initial lay out costs or tie companies into excessive contract terms. We can demonstrate in just 15 minutes how the state-of-the-art technology can save a company literally thousands of pounds whilst increasing operational efficiency.”

Bright Van Man Steers Drivers In The Right Direction This Road Safety Week

Northgate Vehicle Hire, market leader in flexible van hire and fleet solutions, is helping to steer drivers in the right direction this Road Safety Week, 21st–27th November, with a new health and safety campaign aimed at raising awareness of the dangers of driving in the dark.

In association with road safety charity, Brake, Northgate’s Bright Van Man is full of bright ideas for driving safely in the winter months and is communicating six simple subjects with drivers:

Vision – Remember vulnerable road users and approaching obstacles are more difficult to spot. Expect the unexpected!

Lights – Always check your lights when approaching oncoming traffic to avoid‘dazzling’. Remember, it’s illegal to drive without fully functioning front and rear lights.

Speed – Drive at a speed that will allow you to react to unexpected hazards.

Distance – Perception of distance is altered in the dark so extend the two second rule to three seconds.

Fatigue – For long journeys take rests, or consider sharing the drive. Make sure you are well rested before a long nighttime journey. Plan your journeys.

Maintenance – Vehicle maintenance – keep your washer fluid topped up and your vehicle in tip top condition. Ensure all lights are working.

Also supporting the Lighter Later Campaign, which is coordinated by 10:10 and backed by Brake, Northgate is a firm believer that more daylight hours during winter will make the UK roads safer.

Jonathan Pearce, Campaign Manager at Northgate Vehicle Hire, commented on the new campaign:

“With the clocks going back and road casualty statistics showing that 40% of collisions occur in the hours of darkness*, it’s more important than ever that we communicate the importance of driving safely, in the winter months especially, with our colleagues and customers. The Bright Van Man puts a lighthearted face to a serious message and we’re really hoping to strike a chord with drivers this Road Safety Week.”

Northgate has also compiled a Driver’s Guide covering Bright Van Man’s driving tips and other key road safety topics including drink and drug driving, mobile phone use, driver fatigue and speeding. The Driver’s Guide and a Bright Van Man poster can be downloaded from a dedicated Road Safety Week page on Northgate’s website –www.northgatevehiclehire.co.uk/brightvanman.

Northgate Implements New CRM System To Improve Customer Communications

Northgate Vehicle Hire, the market leader in the provision of light commercial vehicle rental and associated fleet solutions, has installed new Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software across the company as a means of demonstrating its ongoing commitment to improving customer communication.

The bespoke CRM system functions as a comprehensive digital resource, allowing information to be stored in one place, accessible to all key stakeholders in the business, from sales and marketing to operations. It also provides transparency to the activity of all sales and account management teams. This allows the company to track the progress and status of any customer or prospect, and therefore greatly assists the successful management of customer expectations.

Part of the technology contributing to the CRM system is the mobile PDA, which enables employees to record all information electronically, automatically updating the main system. This removes the need for the duplication of work and time-consuming data input at the end of each day, which, in turn maximises the time that the sales force and account management team can spend with customers; essentially giving the benefit of a mobile office.

To support the new system, Northgate has rolled out a comprehensive training programme to ensure that Northgate colleagues can effectively use the new tool. To date, 115 staff members have been involved in the training.

Tony Anderson, Northgate’s Commercial Project Manager, comments: “We’re really pleased with the new system. The training programme has only been going for a month but already we’ve had a great response. Our colleagues seem to be particularly impressed by how user friendly the system is and the way that it will save time in their day-to-day activities. Essentially, the CRM system has streamlined our operations, and the benefits will allow us to offer even better service to our customers.”

Europcar Announces Back To University Van Hire

Europcar, the leader in car hire services in Europe believes that parents helping their children head to University often find the family car just isn’t big enough for everything that’s needed for student life so it’s either a case of making several trips or hiring a van.

But many drivers will be unfamiliar with what sort of van is best for the job and what they should expect to pay for van hire, plus they may even be nervous about driving a vehicle much bigger than their car. They may also want to avoid having to drive the van both ways.

With these factors in mind, Europcar is offering a wide range of vans to families to make the University trip as easy as possible, with great rates and one-way hire too. It is also offering advice and tips on its website to help select the right van for the job.

Europcar van hire rates are very competitive and with vans available from over 130 locations across the UK, Europcar is offering students the perfect way to get their belongings from one end of the country to the other, with its one-way hire service. Europcar can also deliver vans through weDeliver, its paid delivery and collection service.

“University terms are about to start and that means students will be trying to fit everything but the kitchen sink into a backpack,” said Ken McCall, Managing Director, Europcar Group UK. “Rather than overloading the car, Mum and Dad can opt for van hire to ensure everything that’s needed can be transported in one easy trip.”

From the small Vauxhall Combo to the Ford Luton box van, Europcar has a van to suit a wide range of needs. Tail lifts come equipped as standard with box vans from Europcar, making it even easier to pick up those last minute essentials before term starts. Additionally, all Europcar vans are fully maintained to manufacturer specifications and covered by 24 hour breakdown, for added peace of mind.

“The minimum age for van hire is 25, so it’s most likely Mum or Dad will have to do the driving,” Ken McCall continued. “But Europcar’s range of vans, means we have the right vehicle for the job and our hire packages also allow customers to choose the package to suit them, whether they want to hire by the day, a week or longer and our top tips on safe van driving ensure the move goes smoothly.”

Europcar Extends Weekend Opening Hours

Europcar, the leader in car hire services in Europe for both leisure and business users, has extended its weekend opening hours across four branches. Now busy customers can pop in on Saturdays and Sundays, for the ultimate in convenience.

Traditionally car hire companies have closed after 1pm on Saturdays, forcing customers to use an out of hours service or take another day’s hire. Recognising that car rental needs to be as convenient as possible, Europcar customers can collect and drop off vehicles outside of the traditional weekend opening hours at the Birmingham, Leeds, Bristol and Manchester branches.

Customers are now able to collect and drop off vehicles from 8am to 4pm on Saturday and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

“Our extended opening hours at selected branches cover the entire weekend, offering customers more choice and flexibility,” explained Ken McCall, Managing Director, Europcar UK. “Europcar is the largest car rental company in the UK to have branches open on Sundays, reflecting our position at the forefront of the car hire market.”

Europcar offers the most flexible pick up and drop off locations and services in the UK, utilising a fleet including van hire, family and prestige vehicles. In addition to the extended opening hours for selected branches, Europcar’s key airport locations remain open 24/7.

McCall concluded: “As Europe’s leading car hire company our goal is to provide motorists with convenience, choice, simplicity and quality as standard. We are listening to their constantly evolving needs in order to be able to continually offer services to make their lives easier.”

Europcar, The UK’s Leading Vehicle Hire Company, Drives Change In Customer Experience

Europcar, the UK’s leading vehicle hire company has taken a leaf from its counterparts in the airline and hotel industries to create a fresh approach to customer experience management.

Following detailed research amongst customers and analysis of the customer journey, Europcar has created what it believes is the car and van hire industry’s first Customer Experience Guide for employees. At the same time, a new, uncomplicated, step by step customer rental guide ‘Your Guide to a Smooth Journey’ has been launched for provision to every customer to ensure a simple, stress free hire experience.

The Customer Experience Guide is a new process to be adopted by all customer-facing employees across Europcar UK Group’s business, from those working at the 200 plus branches throughout the UK along to those dealing with telephone reservations and enquiries at Europcar’s contact centre. The aim is to create the best possible service to customers from the point of contact through to the end of the hire.

Catriona Lougher, Marketing Director for Europcar said: “Whilst high volume business car hire customers have always enjoyed a good level of service from vehicle hire companies, it would be fair to say the leisure customer has not traditionally received the same focus of attention.”

Europcar looked at each aspect of the customer journey in line with extensive customer research undertaken early in 2009 to create a more cohesive approach to service for both business and leisure customers. The guide maps out the different steps of the car hire experience, what customers want at each interaction and the key customer facing operational standards to be delivered.

New key fobs have also been developed for each customer-facing member of staff outlining the 6 golden rules for good customer service to ensure they understand how to deliver great customer service and to gain some consistency across the business.

Catriona Lougher concluded: “By providing customers with the consistency and clarity they demand, these initiatives will pay dividends for the business enabling Europcar to develop the products, service and experience that delivers differentiation, preference and loyalty. We’ve already launched a range of new products this year that are setting us apart from the competition, from free delivery and collection, to one way airport car hire, now we’re really demonstrating our commitment to be the first choice for car and van hire for consumers and businesses across the UK.”

Europcar Is Making Car And Van Hire Both More Accessible And More Affordable To Keep Businesses Moving During The Economic Downturn

Europcar, the UK’s leading vehicle hire company, is making car and van hire both more accessible and more affordable to keep businesses moving during the economic downturn, as SMEs focus on reducing their long term financial commitments and cutting costs.

Marketing Director of car hire firm Europcar, Catriona Lougher said: “With the future looking so uncertain, pay as you go car and van hire makes a lot of sense enabling businesses to respond quickly to opportunities without being tied into longer term contracts. We have therefore created tailored solutions suitable for occasional to more frequent users of vehicle hire. Crucially we have removed potential barriers such as credit checks and improved access to vehicles with free delivery and collection for less frequent customers to make car and van hire much more convenient.”

Small businesses needing a car or van infrequently but requiring flexible rates can now book business car hire or van hire online, via phone or from any of Europcar’s branches using a company credit card and have the vehicle delivered for free within a 10 mile radius. Customers can also pre-pay for their car or van hire, which guarantees a lower rate than paying on arrival. Businesses can also opt to take the vehicle hire on their own insurance or use Europcar’s Options+ excess waivers which include additional drivers and SatNav as part of a menu of packages, allowing them to tailor the hire to their needs.

For SMEs that may need vehicles on a more regular basis but want flexible rates, Europcar now offers Business Advantage bookable via Europcar’s 200 plus locations across the UK. This offers a discount of 15% off standard rates every time they book a car, van or prestige vehicle, plus the convenience of a free additional driver.

Businesses that require vehicles frequently but want the certainties of fixed rates are offered a Business Account with a special rate that is tailored to their needs for bookings made via Europcar’s contact centre. This means the business can budget for vehicle hire costs throughout the year and take advantage of up to 30 day credit terms, monthly invoicing, option of credit card or credit account payment, delivery available to home or business, more flexibility with out-of-hours drop off, unlimited additional drivers, reduced rates for long-term/mini lease and 24-hour RAC breakdown cover.

Europcar Is Giving Customers A £10 Voucher Towards Their Next Hire If They Bring Their Car Back With More Than A Quarter Of A Tank Of Fuel

The offer applies to customers who bought a full tank of fuel at the start of the hire, taking advantage of just one of Europcar’s car hire deals, including Europcar’s competitive rate per litre, 5p under the average high street pump price.

Europcar

“Customers have told us they like the option of buying fuel up front as it saves them the hassle of re-fuelling the vehicle at the end of the hire and also means they receive a good rate at a time when fuel costs are rising again”, said Catriona Lougher, Marketing Director of car hire firm Europcar.

“However, there are occasions when the customer has not used as much fuel as they anticipated and this can cause some dissatisfaction. As it would be difficult to calculate the exact reimbursement cost for any fuel left in the car, we have decided to offer a £10 voucher towards their next hire. This is all part of our commitment to make vehicle hire from Europcar accessible, straightforward and cost-effective for our customers.”

This new offer is being announced alongside a host of other activities by the company, including the launch of ‘Hot Summer Tweets’, the new Europcar Twitter campaign to help engage customers during the peak summer months, and a competition to win a 5 star weekend break by signing up to the Europcar newsletter.

Europcar is the European leader in passenger car and van hire. The company serves business and leisure customers throughout Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region.

Europcar is the first company to win the World Travel Award for ‘the World’s Leading Green Transport Solution Company’. Today, over 99% of Europcar’s fleet is certified ‘Euro IV’ or above – the most stringent applicable European Union standards today in terms of energy consumption and emissions.

Europcar, The UK’s Leading Car Hire Company, Has Announced The Launch Of Its Latest Product – Airport Connect

Lugging heavy bags across town, while worrying about whether train delays will cause missed flights, isn’t the best way for any traveller to kick-off their holiday of intended rest and relaxation. This is why Europcar has created Airport Connect to alleviate some of the stress of travelling to the airport with a convenient and comfortable car hire option that helps get holidays off to a flying start.

airportconnect

Airport Connect customers can simply hire a vehicle from their local Europcar location, leave it at the airport branch and then take the courtesy coach directly to the terminal. On the way home, the process simply works in reverse, so there is no more struggling with train connections and rushing from A to B. Furthermore, Airport Connect customers can also transfer between UK airports.

By booking a car hire deal through Europcar’s new Airport Connect, travellers can be sure that they get a vehicle that’s large enough to take all their luggage and family comfortably. Holidaymakers can slip behind the wheel of their Europcar vehicle and start their trip the way they mean to go on.

Catriona Lougher, Marketing Director for Europcar UK Group said, “The holiday experience begins the moment you set off. Cramming the family and luggage into a small car or taking heavy bags and excited children on the train is guaranteed to get a trip off to a bad start. Airport Connect from Europcar ensures travellers arrive at the airport relaxed and ready for their holiday.”

Europcar, the UK’s leading vehicle rental business, has warned that the vehicle rental sector will face challenges as 1Car1, one of Europcar’s competitors, goes into administration

The vehicle rental sector as a whole is facing serious challenges in terms of fleet supply and cost, cut backs in business travel and the general downturn in the economy. It’s a tough time for the sector and really only the fittest will survive.

Catriona Lougher Marketing Director for Europcar UK Group said: “Our customers tell us that they want a company that delivers on its promises and we at Europcar are able to do just this in the current economic climate.”

“At Europcar we were able to anticipate some of these challenges”, confirmed Catriona Lougher. “We recognised the impact a downturn in corporate business would have on our income and began remodelling ourselves to become much more consumer focused – in fact we have a clear objective to become the UK’s most consumer focused rental business.”

A recent YouGov survey conducted by Europcar revealed that over 1 in 5 people (23%) have either used or are considering using car hire or car clubs as an alternative to car ownership. 1 in 3 drivers (34%) now think that people are trapped into car ownership by their location, work and family commitments. And, around 1 in 4 thinks that the cost of ownership outweighs the benefits. These figures are reinforced by additional responses from Europcar customers who reported that 27% were worried about the reliability of their car, 21% because their own car has broken down and 24% needed a vehicle bigger than their usual car. A further 23% reported renting because in the current climate they don’t even own a car themselves.

With holiday budgets tight, and families reducing costs on car maintenance and even downscaling their car to a more economical vehicle Europcar looks to be perfectly positioned to capitalise on the rise of the ‘stay-cation’ and the demand for flexible, no nonsense car and van hire to help consumers manage their motoring costs.

“2008 saw a resurgence of the UK holiday which led to a real uplift in rentals and it looks set for this trend to continue in 2009 as households try to cut costs but not at the expense of safety or comfort”, Catriona concluded.
