EuropcarClub Launches in the UK

Europcar, the UK’s leading vehicle hire company, has launched EuropcarClub to offer the membership benefits of a car club with the flexibility of daily hire. The UK launch follows a successful roll out in France in 2008.

Bringing a fresh approach to car clubs, EuropcarClub is a subscription based service with two tiers – Easy and Premium. The new service is ideal for those who have decided to opt out of second car ownership but still want the flexibility of different cars to suit different demands or for those who just want to find ways to drive greener. EuropcarClub also offers a solution to businesses who don’t want the financial commitment of leasing or buying company cars.

The launch comes off the back of recent research conducted by Europcar* which found that across Europe, Britons are the most open to the idea of car sharing (34% vs. 28% for the rest of Europe), with the age group most open to giving up car ownership being 18 to 34 year olds.

The Europcar Club ‘Easy’ subscription promises members low rates on daily hire of any vehicle size or type – f r o m compacts to MPVs and vans – with no additional charges for excess cover, one way hires or additional drivers who are also members. Those who subscribe to EuropcarClub’s ‘Premium’ service will get discounted rates on all vehicles on Europcar’s fleet including Prestige f r o m Europcar which offers some of the most coveted vehicles on the road today.

All customers are guaranteed vehicles that are, on average, just 6 months old and can select a car group by its average CO2 emissions. In fact Europcar’s fuel-efficient and low emissions cars use 33% less petrol than the average car on the road.

Catriona Lougher, Marketing Director for Europcar said: “EuropcarClub is all about flexibility and cost-savings. Members can change cars on demand, leave a vehicle at any Europcar location and benefit f  r o m fantastic rates all year long. With no worries over depreciation, tax, maintenance and roadside assistance, they can enjoy access to vehicles suited for the job, the occasion or their mood. We believe EuropcarClub takes the car club concept to the next level and we are committed to be at the forefront of delivering transport solutions to meet the needs of today’s cost conscious and environmentally focused travellers.”

Europcar Has Been Named The World’s Leading Car Rental Company At The 2008 World Travel Awards

Europcar has been named the World’s Leading Car Rental Company, at the 2008 World Travel Awards ceremony in London, following its title of Europe’s Leading Car Rental Company in Portugal on October 17.

The World Travel Awards are the ‘Oscars’ of the travel industry, with 187,000 industry professionals voting for the best company in each category across seven regions of the world.

These two global awards not only reflect Europcar’s professionalism but also its commitment to customer satisfaction: a double victory for the group, which further strengthens its position as Europe’s number one car rental company.

As the European Leader in short-term light- and utility vehicle rental, Europcar is strongly customer-orientated and strives to listen carefully to its customers’ demands. For the last two years the company has taken a global look at its customers’ mobility habits with a pan-European survey: the Europcar Mobility Observatory. This has enabled Europcar to better understand and predict drivers’ habits across Europe, in order to deploy car rental deals and offers which meet customers’ needs.

Europcar has also worked to make progress in innovation and formed partnerships with other leading travel industry players, to offer customers an ever wider and more accessible range of services, as well as renewing agreements with some of the leading names in the European tourism industry. These agreements include easyJet and Swiss, and the launch of a new service of reservations tailored to the customer’s needs with ACCOR.

Additional developments include the development of a new B2B website ‘click4wheels’, known in France as ‘Click@ndDrive’, which facilitates vehicle reservations through the websites of Europcar’s travel agency and tour operator partners. The car rental company has also recently launched a new mobile phone service, which allows users to make or change a reservation, and find the nearest car rental location from compatible mobile phones.

Jehan de Thé, Global Marketing Director of Europcar International, who accepted the trophy in London, commented: “We are truly proud to have won these two awards. They represent our commitment to providing the highest quality of service – a value shared by our entire network, as demonstrated by the awards won by Europcar in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Central America.”

Smart Customization System For Car Rental Launched at Europcar

Europcar and Accor have launched a customized car rental reservation service to facilitate their customers’ travel and lodging plans. When an Accor customer confirms a hotel reservation on www.accorhotels.com, a pre-selection of three vehicles available for rental f r o m Europcar is proposed. The selection is based on the customer’s destination, hotel and length of stay.

Accor is the first hotel group to use the new, more dynamic and efficient online reservation system developed by Europcar. Renault and Europcar Sign Partnership Agreement in Zero-Emission Mobility

Renault and Europcar, the Renault Group’s No.1 short-term rental partner in Europe, has announced an agreement aiming to speed up the implementation of shared innovative solutions as part of Renault’s “Zero-Emission” vehicles program. The agreement will be signed at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt on September 16.

Europe’s leading car rental company will be implementing innovative solutions as part of the “Renault Alliance electric vehicles” project. With 2,500 rental agencies in Europe, Europcar will roll out the new fleet of Renault electric vehicles, as well as the infrastructure needed to recharge batteries at rental points, starting in 2011.

Renault and Europcar want to offer their customers innovative solutions developed jointly and involving the staff and networks of both partners. Europcar is supporting Renault’s “electric vehicles” project by developing specific new short-term car rental services using Renault vehicles adapted to this form of energy.

A clean means of transportation, electric vehicles are increasingly suited to current mobility requirements and short-term rental. According to Renault research, 80% of people in Europe currently travel less than 60 kilometers per day. The two partners aim to make zero-emission vehicles available to as many people as possible, starting in 2011. The electric vehicles will be silent and environmentally friendly, with no carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide or particle emissions.

Commenting on the agreement, Europcar Groupe Chief Executive Officer Salvatore Catania said: “To address the issue of climate change, Europcar wanted to take things further with Renault by optimizing short-term rental solutions suited to electric vehicles. We are proud to have our brand and staff involved in such a large-scale project, which is fully in line with our company’s sustainable development strategy and the goals set forth in our Environmental Charter.”

“Thanks to our ‘Zero-Emission’ mobility program, Renault will offer a broad range of zero-emission vehicles starting in 2011. For Renault, electric vehicles with zero carbon dioxide emissions constitute a real answer to current environmental concerns. We are proud that Europcar has chosen Renault as its partner for its future range of electric vehicles,” commented Uwe Hochgeschurtz, Director of Renault’s Corporate Sales Division.

This partnership reinforces Europcar’s strategy of taking a more eco friendly approach with its green car rental activities. The Company has pioneered in this area since opening a pilot rental location for electric vehicles in Paris in 1999.

SWISS Miles & More members automatically benefit all year long from 500 miles when renting with Europcar, and until October 15, they can double their miles when renting a car online on SWISS.com in the “luxury” category and above, for four days or more.

Europcar, The European Leader In Car Rental, Has Been Awarded An ISO 14001 Certification For Fulfilling Its Environmental Promises

The main measures implemented by Europcar in terms of social and environmental responsibility are formally documented in its “Charter for the Environment,” which was certified by Bureau Veritas in 2008. This was the first certification of such a charter in the fields of quality, safety, health, environment and corporate social responsibility given to a company in Europe.

Europcar’s charter is founded on bold commitments in four main areas: a green car rental fleet, clean and environmentally friendly fleet maintenance, awareness-raising measures for employees and customers, and ISO 14001 certification of internal environmental management processes.

During its control audit in 2009, Bureau Veritas clearly observed the progress achieved by Europcar in respecting its commitment, regarding a “green” fleet, fleet maintenance, awareness-raising for employees and customers and internal processes. Thus, regarding its green fleet, Europcar signed a partnership agreement with Nissan to launch electric vehicles in the rental market and is developing global zero-emission mobility solutions.

Regarding fleet maintenance, Europcar has set up a recycling program for waste, fluids and wastewater f r o m all its washing stations.

In view of raising awareness among employees and customers, Europcar launched an internal competition within its employees to find the “best green idea,” recently awarding an e-Solex for an IT hardware recycling concept. For its customers, the company has set up CO2 offset and invoicing programs stating the quantity of CO2 emitted for each car and van rental

Concerning its internal processes, Europcar gained ISO 14001 certification for its internal environmental management processes in Germany during February 2009, following on f r o m Spain and Italy where it secured ISO 14001 accreditation in May 2000 and June 1999 and has just received it for the Group’s headquarters. The company aims to gain the same certification in France, the United Kingdom, Portugal and Belgium by the end of 2009. Franchisees in other countries are required to apply the same processes.

“For over 10 years, we have been offering clean vehicles and have played a pioneering role in our industry,” stated Rafael Girona, Chief Operating Officer of Europcar Groupe. “We take our sustainable development commitments and initiatives very seriously indeed. ISO 14001 certification and Bureau Veritas’s validation of the progress made reinforces our confidence that we are on the right track.”

Europcar, The UK’s Leading Vehicle Hire Company, Drives Change In Customer Experience

Europcar, the UK’s leading vehicle hire company has taken a leaf from its counterparts in the airline and hotel industries to create a fresh approach to customer experience management.

Following detailed research amongst customers and analysis of the customer journey, Europcar has created what it believes is the car and van hire industry’s first Customer Experience Guide for employees. At the same time, a new, uncomplicated, step by step customer rental guide ‘Your Guide to a Smooth Journey’ has been launched for provision to every customer to ensure a simple, stress free hire experience.

The Customer Experience Guide is a new process to be adopted by all customer-facing employees across Europcar UK Group’s business, from those working at the 200 plus branches throughout the UK along to those dealing with telephone reservations and enquiries at Europcar’s contact centre. The aim is to create the best possible service to customers from the point of contact through to the end of the hire.

Catriona Lougher, Marketing Director for Europcar said: “Whilst high volume business car hire customers have always enjoyed a good level of service from vehicle hire companies, it would be fair to say the leisure customer has not traditionally received the same focus of attention.”

Europcar looked at each aspect of the customer journey in line with extensive customer research undertaken early in 2009 to create a more cohesive approach to service for both business and leisure customers. The guide maps out the different steps of the car hire experience, what customers want at each interaction and the key customer facing operational standards to be delivered.

New key fobs have also been developed for each customer-facing member of staff outlining the 6 golden rules for good customer service to ensure they understand how to deliver great customer service and to gain some consistency across the business.

Catriona Lougher concluded: “By providing customers with the consistency and clarity they demand, these initiatives will pay dividends for the business enabling Europcar to develop the products, service and experience that delivers differentiation, preference and loyalty. We’ve already launched a range of new products this year that are setting us apart from the competition, from free delivery and collection, to one way airport car hire, now we’re really demonstrating our commitment to be the first choice for car and van hire for consumers and businesses across the UK.”

Europcar, European Car Rental Firm, Has Partnered With Fiat To Add A New Range Of Eco-Friendly Cars To Their Car Rental Fleet

The new Fiat models offered by Europcar include the eco-friendly Punto, Grand Punto, Idea, 500, Panda, Qubo and Bravo.

Speaking about Europcar’s decision to partner with Fiat, Global Marketing Director Jehan de Thè described how the company’s drive to be more eco-friendly meant that Fiat who are currently “the best-selling brand ranked by volumes-weighted average CO2 emissions” was the ideal choice for Europcar.

Greener car rental solutions have become particularly important for the Europcar Group in recent years. In 2008, Europcar became the first European car hire company to be honoured with the Green Charter, an honour bestowed by Bureau Veritas in recognition of the company’s green initiatives.

De Thè commented: “Europcar is pioneering an eco-friendly approach to car rental through a number of ground-breaking initiatives. In particular, Europcar undertakes to offer to its customers a vehicle fleet with the minimum possible impact on the environment.”

Alongside the alliance with Fiat, Europcar has taken other notable steps to reach environmentally-conscious consumers. Europcar’s website now offers customers the ability to assess and compare the average CO2 emissions for each car group within the fleet before deciding to book car hire with Europcar.

The new Fiat car rental range currently includes some of the most eco-friendly car rental options on the Europcar website. The Fiat 500 and Fiat Panda for example offer 110/km CO2 and 113/km CO2 respectively, while other models such as the Fiat Idea and Grand Punto emit less than 120g/km CO2.

As Europcar continues to take the necessary steps to improve the company’s green credentials, alliances with companies like Fiat are – according to de Thè – “strategic in achieving this”.

Europcar Is Making Car And Van Hire Both More Accessible And More Affordable To Keep Businesses Moving During The Economic Downturn

Europcar, the UK’s leading vehicle hire company, is making car and van hire both more accessible and more affordable to keep businesses moving during the economic downturn, as SMEs focus on reducing their long term financial commitments and cutting costs.

Marketing Director of car hire firm Europcar, Catriona Lougher said: “With the future looking so uncertain, pay as you go car and van hire makes a lot of sense enabling businesses to respond quickly to opportunities without being tied into longer term contracts. We have therefore created tailored solutions suitable for occasional to more frequent users of vehicle hire. Crucially we have removed potential barriers such as credit checks and improved access to vehicles with free delivery and collection for less frequent customers to make car and van hire much more convenient.”

Small businesses needing a car or van infrequently but requiring flexible rates can now book business car hire or van hire online, via phone or from any of Europcar’s branches using a company credit card and have the vehicle delivered for free within a 10 mile radius. Customers can also pre-pay for their car or van hire, which guarantees a lower rate than paying on arrival. Businesses can also opt to take the vehicle hire on their own insurance or use Europcar’s Options+ excess waivers which include additional drivers and SatNav as part of a menu of packages, allowing them to tailor the hire to their needs.

For SMEs that may need vehicles on a more regular basis but want flexible rates, Europcar now offers Business Advantage bookable via Europcar’s 200 plus locations across the UK. This offers a discount of 15% off standard rates every time they book a car, van or prestige vehicle, plus the convenience of a free additional driver.

Businesses that require vehicles frequently but want the certainties of fixed rates are offered a Business Account with a special rate that is tailored to their needs for bookings made via Europcar’s contact centre. This means the business can budget for vehicle hire costs throughout the year and take advantage of up to 30 day credit terms, monthly invoicing, option of credit card or credit account payment, delivery available to home or business, more flexibility with out-of-hours drop off, unlimited additional drivers, reduced rates for long-term/mini lease and 24-hour RAC breakdown cover.

Many have downsized their own cars and need something bigger, smarter and more reliable for holidays and special occasions, or are looking for alternatives to ownership. Add to this the returning popularity of domestic holidays and Hire Rewards offers those travelling in the UK easy and cost-effective access to a wide range of vehicles on average just six months old, from more than 200 branches nationwide.

Europcar Smooth The Journey With New Vehicle Hire Guide

Europcar, the UK’s leading vehicle hire company has launched a new step by step guide, just ahead of the peak summer season, to be given to every customer at the outset of their vehicle hire.

Europcar Smooth The Journey With New Vehicle Hire Guide

‘Your Guide to a Smooth Journey’ offers all the key information customers need to make their car hire experience enjoyable. The guide includes tips on what to do before setting off, how to improve fuel economy, how to keep the kids happy in the car and some useful telephone numbers customers may need.

Catriona Lougher, Marketing Director for Europcar said: “This may seem a simple step to take but we have invested a lot of time and research into getting this guide exactly right for our customers. It really has been an opportunity to go back to basics, seeking the views of our customers and looking at how we can dispel some of the uncertainties and mistrust that has surrounded car hire. Your Guide to a Smooth Journey makes the process as clear as possible, so that customers enjoy a simple, straightforward hassle free vehicle hire experience.”

The guide is just one of a number of developments Europcar has launched this year to make car hire more accessible to households looking for alternatives to the family run around, or as an alternative to ownership all together. From free car hire delivery and collection through weDeliver, one way hires to and from Airports with Airport Connect and Options+ to enable customers to tailor the hire to their needs with Sat Nav, additional drivers and child seats, Europcar is focused on delivering what customers want from their vehicle hire company.

Catriona Lougher concluded: “Some customers hire from us once a year, some once a month and the reasons for hiring vary so we needed to ensure the guide would be helpful on a number of levels. However in listening to our customers there was one common theme: keep it simple. And that’s what we’ve done, not only in the creation of this guide but we’re looking at every process of the customer journey to make it as smooth as possible for our customers.”

Europcar Is Giving Customers A £10 Voucher Towards Their Next Hire If They Bring Their Car Back With More Than A Quarter Of A Tank Of Fuel

The offer applies to customers who bought a full tank of fuel at the start of the hire, taking advantage of just one of Europcar’s car hire deals, including Europcar’s competitive rate per litre, 5p under the average high street pump price.

“Customers have told us they like the option of buying fuel up front as it saves them the hassle of re-fuelling the vehicle at the end of the hire and also means they receive a good rate at a time when fuel costs are rising again”, said Catriona Lougher, Marketing Director of car hire firm Europcar.

“However, there are occasions when the customer has not used as much fuel as they anticipated and this can cause some dissatisfaction. As it would be difficult to calculate the exact reimbursement cost for any fuel left in the car, we have decided to offer a £10 voucher towards their next hire. This is all part of our commitment to make vehicle hire from Europcar accessible, straightforward and cost-effective for our customers.”

This new offer is being announced alongside a host of other activities by the company, including the launch of ‘Hot Summer Tweets’, the new Europcar Twitter campaign to help engage customers during the peak summer months, and a competition to win a 5 star weekend break by signing up to the Europcar newsletter.

Europcar is the European leader in passenger car and van hire. The company serves business and leisure customers throughout Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region.

Europcar is the first company to win the World Travel Award for ‘the World’s Leading Green Transport Solution Company’. Today, over 99% of Europcar’s fleet is certified ‘Euro IV’ or above – the most stringent applicable European Union standards today in terms of energy consumption and emissions.

Black Is The UK’s Most Popular Car Colour, Says Autoquake.com

Autoquake.com has revealed that black is currently the most popular colour for used cars among shoppers with the online used car retailer. Following usability improvements to the site, visitors have been able to search for used cars by colour for almost a month and of those who used this facility the majority looked for black.

With an average of 1000 cars for sale and 10,000 visitors per day, only slightly less than two thirds (65.9%) of searches were for a black vehicle. That’s nearly six times as many who searched for silver (11.5%), usually reckoned to be the most popular colour among second-hand car buyers.

Superstition seems to have played a part in many shoppers’ preferences. Green is often said to be an unlucky colour for a car. Just 0.09% of Autoquake.com’s used car buyers looked for a green machine.

Other colours were way down Autoquake.com buyers’ wish list. Red polled just 6.6%, only just ahead of grey on 5.7%. Blue was preferred by just 5.3% of shoppers.

One colour that used car buyers usually avoid is white, but with iPods and other upmarket consumer goods making white more fashionable nearly one in 20 shoppers searched for a white car.

It might seem like a matter of personal taste, but there’s more to choosing the colour of a car than just picking a favourite shade. It pays for buyers to choose wisely if they want to maximise the value of their car. Although second in the eyes of Autoquake.com’s website users, silver is usually reckoned to be the safest colour for solid resale values. Perhaps it’s not everyone’s favourite, but it’s smart, understated and won’t frighten many buyers off. Just as importantly, it’s not a fashionable, up-to-the-minute colour, which might look great on the driveway today but seem naff in three or four years.

Red seems to be the big loser at the moment. The searches made by Autoquake.com users reinforce other recent surveys which have shown that red is less popular than it was in the ’80s and ’90s.

The trend seems to be to move away from vivid, in-your-face colour choices to something more sober, perhaps reflecting the desire to consume less conspicuously in difficult economic times. This could also help to explain the popularity of grey, the favoured choice of more than 1-in-20 Autoquake.com users.

About Autoquake.com
Autoquake.com is the UK’s largest online car retailer. Founded in 2005 with the goal to provide a better used car buying experience, Autoquake.com currently helps around 1000 buyers a month.

Cars for sale in Autoquake.com’s virtual showroom are displayed with descriptions including 40 high quality digital pictures. All cars go through a 141 point inspection and come with a 100% money back guarantee. Car finance, warranty, insurance and delivery are supplementary options that buyers can benefit from.

Europcar, The UK’s Leading Car Hire Company, Has Announced The Launch Of Its Latest Product – Airport Connect

Lugging heavy bags across town, while worrying about whether train delays will cause missed flights, isn’t the best way for any traveller to kick-off their holiday of intended rest and relaxation. This is why Europcar has created Airport Connect to alleviate some of the stress of travelling to the airport with a convenient and comfortable car hire option that helps get holidays off to a flying start.

Airport Connect customers can simply hire a vehicle from their local Europcar location, leave it at the airport branch and then take the courtesy coach directly to the terminal. On the way home, the process simply works in reverse, so there is no more struggling with train connections and rushing from A to B. Furthermore, Airport Connect customers can also transfer between UK airports.

By booking a car hire deal through Europcar’s new Airport Connect, travellers can be sure that they get a vehicle that’s large enough to take all their luggage and family comfortably. Holidaymakers can slip behind the wheel of their Europcar vehicle and start their trip the way they mean to go on.

Catriona Lougher, Marketing Director for Europcar UK Group said, “The holiday experience begins the moment you set off. Cramming the family and luggage into a small car or taking heavy bags and excited children on the train is guaranteed to get a trip off to a bad start. Airport Connect from Europcar ensures travellers arrive at the airport relaxed and ready for their holiday.”

Europcar Has Announced That Ahead Of The Spanish Grand Prix In Barcelona On 10 May, It Will Be Providing Its Own Grand Prize

Europcar car rental Germany and Europcar car rental UK have managed to secure 5 sets of tickets for the upcoming Grand Prix in Spain. These tickets will be offered by Europcar in a Formula 1 prize draw where any European resident aged 18 years and over, who signs up to the Europcar newsletter, will be entered to win pairs of tickets for the upcoming event.

The closing date for the draw is the 30th April. The prize consists of a pair of tickets to see the Spanish Grand Prix, which is due to take place at the physically and mechanically taxing Circuit de Catalunya of Montmelo. The tickets will provide access to see the race on the 10th May as well as the Friday practice and qualifying sessions, which will take place in Barcelona on the 8/9th May.

The race which is officially called the Gran Premio de Espana de Formula One, has changed considerably since it was first run in 1913 at Guadarrama. A regular fixture of the Grand Prix programme, 2009 marks the 19th time Barcelona has hosted the Spanish Grand at Catalunya, with its mix of high and low-speed corners.

Since Nigel Mansell won the first Catalunya based race in 1991, Michael Schumacher has proved to be the most successful driver at tackling the circuit. However amongst the current drivers, Kimi Raikkonen, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa, have all shown their abilities and what it takes to be a success at this challenging track, having each won at least once in the last four years. With the addition of World Champion Lewis Hamilton and the early form of the Brawn GP team to also contend with, the winners of the Europcar prize are assured a fantastic 2009 race experience.

The prize draw will take place under independent supervision on 1st May, where five entries will be chosen and the winners will be notified the same day.

Europcar, the UK’s leading vehicle rental business, has warned that the vehicle rental sector will face challenges as 1Car1, one of Europcar’s competitors, goes into administration

The vehicle rental sector as a whole is facing serious challenges in terms of fleet supply and cost, cut backs in business travel and the general downturn in the economy. It’s a tough time for the sector and really only the fittest will survive.

Catriona Lougher Marketing Director for Europcar UK Group said: “Our customers tell us that they want a company that delivers on its promises and we at Europcar are able to do just this in the current economic climate.”

“At Europcar we were able to anticipate some of these challenges”, confirmed Catriona Lougher. “We recognised the impact a downturn in corporate business would have on our income and began remodelling ourselves to become much more consumer focused – in fact we have a clear objective to become the UK’s most consumer focused rental business.”

A recent YouGov survey conducted by Europcar revealed that over 1 in 5 people (23%) have either used or are considering using car hire or car clubs as an alternative to car ownership. 1 in 3 drivers (34%) now think that people are trapped into car ownership by their location, work and family commitments. And, around 1 in 4 thinks that the cost of ownership outweighs the benefits. These figures are reinforced by additional responses from Europcar customers who reported that 27% were worried about the reliability of their car, 21% because their own car has broken down and 24% needed a vehicle bigger than their usual car. A further 23% reported renting because in the current climate they don’t even own a car themselves.

With holiday budgets tight, and families reducing costs on car maintenance and even downscaling their car to a more economical vehicle Europcar looks to be perfectly positioned to capitalise on the rise of the ‘stay-cation’ and the demand for flexible, no nonsense car and van hire to help consumers manage their motoring costs.

“2008 saw a resurgence of the UK holiday which led to a real uplift in rentals and it looks set for this trend to continue in 2009 as households try to cut costs but not at the expense of safety or comfort”, Catriona concluded.
